VA Clinics Scheduled to Open in Brunswick, Hinesville | Georgia

Posted on Aug 30, 2009

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson was in Georgia recently.  The reason for the visit was to discuss the future of two clinics in the state.  The Georgia VA clinics would help provide local service to over 15,000 disabled veterans .  The project has been much delayed but Isakson stressed that there are concrete deadlines for the clinics.

"We hope to open the clinic in Brunswick in 2010 and the one in Hinesville in 2011," he said.  "Hinesville's clinic has been pushed back for good reason, as VA decided to double the size of the initial proposal in order to provide mental health services tailored specifically to the large population of recent veterans serving the 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart."

Some veterans and advocates are skeptical as ground was broken for the clinics and foundations laid.  Despite the preparations the clinics were not completed.  Isakson stressed that the delay will be to the benefit of both veterans and the community.  The emphasis on improving the mental health of veterans will expand both the size and scope of the clinics.

Both Isakson and local veterans hope that the new services will be worth the wait.
