Click To Call The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) cut their first set of housing checks under the new GI Bill. Last minute submissions and the number of checks to be written slowed the VA down. Still, they pledge to get the checks out as soon as possible. At LaVan & Neidenberg we have dedicated ourselves to fighting for the rights of disabled veterans. VA Issues GI Bill Housing Checks | Veterans’ Attorney Ft. Lauderdale FL

Posted on Sep 30, 2009

While tens of thousands of veterans have received their GI bill housing allowance checks, many are still waiting for their arrival.  The VA is working on the paper backlog that the new GI Bill created and Veterans groups say they'll continue to monitor the situation.

Keith Wilson, the department's education service director, said that anyone who has qualified for a housing check will receive it by October 1st.  The department has received well over 200,000 claims related to the Post 9/11 GI Bill and has completed action on 169,000.

The revamped Bill expanded both the scope and size of original GI Bill, providing more help than ever for current and former service members.  Though it is working to help hundreds of thousands of veterans, there have been some snags in the system.  Patrick Campbell, chief legislative council of the group Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, has seen the problems but has faith that the VA will work them out.

According to Campbell the delays many veterans are experiencing underscore the importance of simplifying the new GI Bill before next year.
