Last month a federal judge ruled that 4,300 veterans may have been wrongly denied benefits related to their diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder. The ruling opens the door for the over 4,000 veterans to receive higher benefits for their service-related PTSD.
The lawsuit was originally filed on behalf of seven veterans who suffer from PTSD. These veterans were denied a rating that would have made them eligible for many long-term benefits.
The Defense Department has said that they will work to expedite the claims of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who are suffering from PTSD but have been denied benefits.
Former U.S. Marine Cpl. Tyler Einarson is disappointed that his time serving his country has left him in need yet unable to get the benefits he deserves.
"I fought one war for my country abroad, but now I am fighting a different battle here at home, the battle to get health care benefits to which I and thousands of other servicemen are entitled."
