Waging War on the VA - Part 5

"Shrapnel wounds all over the body not service-connected." This is what the VA told Garrett Andersen, a National Guardsman who lost his right arm when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) hit the Army truck he was driving near Bagdad, in his disability compensation awards letter.

Andersen also suffered a fractured jaw; his head and body were torn by shrapnel; and now says he struggles with mild Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The VA downgraded his PTSD claim to a panic disorder.

PTSD is one of the fastest growing disability claims. The even bigger problem is that the VA has not found a fair way of deciding how much it's worth.
